Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” –  Luke 6:5

THE BLESSING OF THE SABBATH
As we fulfill the creation mandate in our places of work, we experience the work-rest continuum.  There is no work related stress here.

Yet, as we fully participate in the work-rest continuum, we need to carve out our Sabbath rest (Mk 6:31). This is why our homes should be places of true rest and refreshing.

God was refreshed because of the Sabbath rest, how much more for us (Ex 31:17) ?  It is necessary for Man to have the time of refreshing, only then will Man be able to carry out the creation mandate in his place of work (Ex 23:12) .

Sabbath was sign between God and Man for our sanctification (Ex 31:13).  To be sanctified is to be set apart.  Set apart from the world and set apart for God.  We need the Sabbath to detoxify our lives from the pulls and pushes of the world.  Sadly, when we crowd even the Sabbath with plenty of ‘spiritual activities’, we deny the time for sanctification in the presence of the Lord.  How sad it is to see God’s people, ‘running’ all the time’.  They have no time to be detoxified from the world and be saturated with the perspectives of God.

Sabbath is not only for us but also for our people as well as the inanimate effects that we use in our work (Ex 23:12/ Lev 25:2-3).

Sabbath is also a day when we keep away from our own pleasures and not doing our own ways (Is 58:13-14).

The Lord promises great blessing when we honour the Lord in our Sabbath.

“We need the Sabbath to detoxify our lives from the pulls and pushes of the world.”

Thought to ponder: Sabbath was made for Man and not Man for the Sabbath
